SHORT BIO

The Agricultural University of Athens (AUA) is the 3rd oldest university in Greece. Since 1920, contributes consistently and continuously to Greek and European primary sector development, by conducting basic and applied research in agricultural related sciences. AUA conducts the 1/3 of agricultural research in Greece. The University is situated on a green campus that straddles close to the Acropolis, at the heart of the ancient Olive Grove. AUA campus is a complex of 16 buildings comprising of auditoriums, 41 fully equipped laboratories, a modern library, computer clusters and extensive agricultural facilities such as an arboretum, a vineyard, experimental fields, a flower garden, greenhouses, a cowshed, a sheep pen, a chicken coop, dairy installations and aquaculture tanks).

AUA team is consisted of two Groups, the Precision Agriculture Group (PAG) and the Plant Pathology Group (PPG-AUA). The experience of PAG-AUA in spraying machinery and precision agriculture and the PPG-AUA expertise in plant disease detection and treatment are crucial for AUA participation in the project.

INVOLVEMENT IN OPTIMA

WP2

PPG-AUA leads the selection and optimization of appropriate disease prediction models to be integrated into the OPTIMA DSS
null

WP3

PPG-AUA acts as WP3 leader regarding the assessment for the combination of synthetic and biological PPPs to control the selected diseases and contribute to understanding the genetic, evolutionary and agronomic drivers of host resistance and evolution of PPP pathogen resistance.

WP4

PAG-AUA designs and develops the controller for the connection of the detection system with the variable rate application system to be integrated in the new smart sprayers.

WP7

AUA also participates in the dissemination and exploitation activities of the project.

WP8

Based on their great expertise in Precision Agriculture and in Integrated Disease Management, PAG-AUA and PPG-AUA co-coordinate OPTIMA project.
