The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC) is a public institution with a vocation to serve society. It offers broad higher education in a wide range of technical, artistic and humanistic fields. Under H2020 programme, UPC has been granted 87 projects, coordinating 29. Besides H2020, UPC also has 14 projects funded by other European programmes. All of these projects have a total EU financial contribution of 39.8m €.
The Group of Agricultural Machinery is located at the School of Agricultural Engineering of Barcelona building (ESAB) in the Baix Llobregat Campus (Mediterranean Technology Park – PMT) and has its agricultural mechanization laboratory located at Agropolis, the newly build scientific park of UPC.

It’s director, Prof. Dr. Emilio Gil is a member of the EIP-AGRI Focus Group Mainstreaming Precision Farming and he is the Spanish responsible of the TOPPS project, where the operators are trained to promote Best Practices & Sustainability. He is currently the coordinator of the H2020 Innoseta (N. 773718) as well as the Erasmus + Project AgrCT ( 2018-1-ES01-KA202-050709) and the principal investigator at UPC of the H2020 OPTIMA project (N. 773864) and LIFE-PERFECT (LIFE17 ENV/ES/000205).

UMA-UPC collaborates with FEDE and AUA in the design and development of a smart-sprayer dedicated to apple orchards. The starting point of the new smart sprayer will be the high-tech orchard sprayer developed under the EU project H3O (H30- Healthy crop. Healthy environment, healthy finances – H3O – H2020-SMEINST-2014) which has been developed by FEDE and UMA-UPC.

Also considering the large experience in training, dissemination and extension activities, UMA-UPC will participate actively in the activities focused on dissemination and demonstration activities.

UMA-UPM leads WP5 where all components of the OPTIMA IPM system will be evaluated in field conditions. UMA-UPM is mainly focused on the new smart sprayer evaluation because of its experience in spraying technology and in the organization and development of training, demonstration, extension activities.
